After over 40 years in the insurance industry and nearly four decades with Ryan & Ryan Insurance, Kathy DiBella is preparing for a well-deserved retirement at the end of this month.
Kathy’s journey with the company began in August of 1987 when she started working for Bob Ryan’s father. Since then, Kathy has been an integral part of the Ryan & Ryan team, serving clients, building relationships, and leaving a lasting impact on the company and the community.
A Journey That Began in 1977
Kathy’s career in insurance began in 1977 at Keystone Insurance Co. in Philadelphia, where she worked in the claims department. From there, she moved into the subrogation and property damage departments. In 1982, her husband’s job at IBM brought her to Kingston, NY. While working for Barry Scott Insurance and pursuing her Property & Casualty (P&C) license, Kathy’s path led her to Ryan & Ryan. It was John Hall, an instructor for her insurance classes, who recommended her for a position at Robert J. Ryan Insurance. “I went for the interview, and the rest is history,” said Kathy.
A Heart for Service
At Ryan & Ryan Insurance, Kathy’s role focused on new business sales and servicing accounts. Her ability to understand her clients’ needs and find the best coverage solutions for them became her hallmark.
Kathy recalls one memorable experience that encapsulates her dedication to customer service: “I remember getting a call from an attorney in a closing with a client who didn’t have home insurance. She asked if I could quote ASAP so the closing could proceed. I obtained the info, quoted the coverage, drove over to her office, had the application signed, and bound the coverage. The attorney sent me countless referrals after that, and it’s those connections that meant the most.”
For Kathy, the most fulfilling part of her job has always been helping others. She adds:
“I’ve met so many wonderful people over the years, some of whom feel like family. There’s nothing more rewarding than making sure someone is protected and guiding them through the insurance process.”
A Family-Like Bond with the Team
As Kathy prepares to retire, she reflects on what she’ll miss most—her team. “The team is simply the best around. We all work together as one, helping each other every day. We’re like family. I wouldn’t have made it through all these years without them,” said Kathy. “The girls are my sisters. I lived in NY for over 30 years with no family here, and they became my family away from home. I simply love them.”
Kathy’s connection with her coworkers has been a key part of her positive experience at Ryan & Ryan. Bob Ryan shares his admiration for Kathy’s contributions:
“Kathy has been an outstanding, loyal, and hardworking team player since the late 1980s. Her sense of humor, dedication, and willingness to always step up have made her a valued member of our team. Kathy will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.”
Looking Ahead to Retirement
As Kathy looks toward the next chapter, she’s excited to spend more time with family and friends. “I’m looking forward to my son’s wedding in Costa Rica, to relax on the beach, and enjoy the sun,” she says. “I want to travel more and visit the places I’ve always dreamed of. I also enjoy crocheting, reading with a glass of wine in hand, and I’m considering volunteering somewhere.”
A Lasting Legacy
Reflecting on her 40 years in the industry, Kathy is proud of the work she’s done. “It’s been a good career,” she says. “I’ve worked for Ryan & Ryan for most of those years, and it’s been a great place to work. Bob is one of the best in the business. He treats his employees with respect, shares in his success, and cares deeply about his family, employees, and community.”
Kathy’s impact at Ryan & Ryan extends far beyond her work. Her dedication to her clients, her loyalty to the team, and her vibrant spirit have shaped the culture of the company for years.
Bob Ryan concludes with heartfelt well wishes:
“Kathy, I wish you a long, happy, and healthy retirement with your toes in the Jersey Shore sand and a little white wine on occasion! Thank you for your years of service, commitment, and loyalty. You’ll always be a part of the Ryan & Ryan family.”
As Kathy closes this chapter, she leaves behind a legacy of kindness, professionalism, and unwavering dedication. While she may be retiring from her role, Kathy is not saying goodbye—she’s simply saying, “See you later.”
We’ll Miss You, Kathy!
On behalf of everyone at Ryan & Ryan Insurance, we want to thank Kathy for her years of service and dedication. She will always be remembered for her warmth, hard work, and the positive impact she made on all of us. We wish her nothing but the best in this exciting new chapter of her life. Enjoy your retirement, Kathy!
