Davenport Farms, May’s Client of the Month, is a family-owned farm market, greenhouse, and wholesale vegetable farm located at 3411 US Route 209 in Stone Ridge. Owned and operated by brothers Bruce and Barth Davenport, the farm has been continuously run by the Davenport family for at least six or seven generations (it’s been so long, they’re starting to lose count!).
The family currently farms 175 acres of farmland where they grow their famous sweet corn, in addition to a variety of tomatoes, peppers, squash, pumpkins, assorted greens (kale, collards, etc.), broccoli, eggplant, asparagus (currently picking!), garlic, strawberries, concord grapes, cut flowers, and more.
The Davenport Farms farm stand, where the (literal) fruits of their labor are sold, is currently open seasonally from 7:30am – 7pm daily (Sundays until 6pm), where they sell their homegrown produce, flowers, bedding plants, perennials, trees and shrubs, cider, soups, baked goods, homemade lunch items, gourmet foods, and much more.
If you’re unable to make it to the farm stand in Stone Ridge, you can also find Davenport’s produce sold locally at Hannaford and Tops grocery stores, and they also sell to Whole Foods, who then delivers the produce to stores in Manhattan and New Jersey.
Davenport Farms has been insured by Ryan & Ryan Insurance Brokers since 2010. When asked why they chose R&R as their insurance agency, Bruce responded by stating:
“Bobby used to work for us back when he was still Bobby. He used to ride his moped out from Kingston to the farm every day. He was an exemplary employee so we didn’t think twice about using him for our insurance needs.”“
Bruce went on to say:
