Thirty years ago, Alan was working for Ulster County Department of Public Works when he realized he needed to bring in more income. He started doing landscaping on the side, and as the years went by, his side business continued to grow by word of mouth. In fact, Alan’s services became so popular that he was basically working two full time jobs in the spring and summer seasons. So in 2020, Alan retired from the county to run Big Al Landscaping full time. He now has multiple employees, including his sons Alan Brown Jr. and Anthony Vazquez who work with him part time.
Big Al Landscaping offers a multitude of landscaping, lawn care, hardscaping, and yard work services including tree and shrub planting and pruning, flower beds and gardens, light excavating, mowing and trimming, seeding and fertilizing, sod installation, lawn maintenance contracts, light stonework, patios and pool decks, walks and driveways, retaining walls, spring and fall cleanup, storm cleanup, snow removal, weed control, and sidewalk edging.
They handle an assortment of handyman services as well, including painting, light carpentry, plumbing fixtures, wood and vinyl fences, deck refinishing, painting, and staining, small roof repairs, house and property clean outs, junk and debris removal, power washing, general maintenance and repair, and more!
Big Al Landscaping has been insured by Ryan & Ryan Insurance Brokers since June 2018. When asked why they chose R&R as the business’s insurance agency, Alan responded by stating:
“We originally followed our insurance agent to Ryan and Ryan. And although she no longer works there, we decided to stay and are very happy with Kim, our current agent!”
